Pre-work Oh no! Homework already?! Not to worry – this fun pre-work!
Prior to the class, please watch the R.E.A.D. Training video. The entire video is approximately 40 minutes long. We will be discussing this video in class so it’s important that you view it ahead of time.
Schedule a shadow visit so you can observe a R.E.A.D. session in action! Do this after you’ve viewed the video. We’ve found that the training class makes a lot more sense to you if you’ve “seen” the program live and in person before you come. To schedule your shadow visit, please go to our Calendar of Eventson the website and select a location near you on a day/time that is convenient for you. Once you’ve done that, please email your instructor your preferences for a *library* and she will work to get that visit set up for you. This visit is just for you; your dog gets to stay home and relax while you’re working!
Registration Following the training session, you will have the opportunity to register with Intermountain Therapy Animals (ITA) and become a nationally registered R.E.A.D. Team, joining over 6,000 registered R.E.A.D. Teams throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. This registration will also include membership in our local organization, CAREing Paws. Registration requires a one time fee of $80 payable to Intermountain Therapy Animals. This fee is applicable for your lifetime as long as your therapy registration is kept current. More details on this will be explained at the end of the training session.
Other Good Stuff to Know ** The R.E.A.D. training is for the humans only - - so your animal companions can rest comfortably at home while you study. ** Participation in our program requires registration with one of the national therapy dog organizations. This is the cornerstone and the foundation of the R.E.A.D. program and is a prerequisite for this course. ** If you are not already a registered therapy team, please contact your instructor for further guidance. ** EVERY attendee is required to register. Thus, if you wish to bring a spouse, child, parent or anyone else along with you, please contact your instructor in advance.
Application Form If you haven't already, please complete our R.E.A.D. Workshop Registration Form. This will get you registered for the R.E.A.D. class. Thanks so much! We look forward to having you!
